There is a great need by man to conquer nature. Whether it be a pioneering family clearing the land to grow cattle, or a property developer bulldozing hills to build homes. The urge to conquer is closely aligned with that of our need for survival; how else could we live if we did not have the necessary drive to subdue the earth and farm its resources. Does that drive have an entirely practical basis or is it acceptable for man to find some respectful enjoyment or reward in his earthly wrestling with nature. After all, even the man who adopts a life of pure hermitage seeking to be at one with nature is still required to subdue nature for the sake of his basic needs of food and shelter.
